Celebrating One Million i3 Verticals Kiosk Tag Renewals in Tennessee

Modernized Vehicle Registration Renewal

i3 Verticals’ unified i3 Transport360 platform helps streamline processes for staff and customers, including our Self-Service Kiosks.

Our 24/7 Outdoor and Indoor Kiosks make registration renewal more accessible and flexible, meeting citizens’ demand for government self-services. They can be installed anywhere public parking is available, from inside a library, at a county office’s drive-thru lane, downtown on a sidewalk, in a grocery store parking lot, and more. The possibilities are endless.

12 Years & Counting

Over the course of i3 Verticals’ 12-year partnership with Tennessee counties, Tennessee has seen exceptional growth in its Self-Service Kiosk Vehicle Registration Renewal Program.

What began with one Kiosk in Davidson County has grown to nearly 90 Kiosks and counting across Tennessee, 18 outdoor and 69 indoor, resulting in one million vehicle registration renewals.

“It’s so exciting to hear this truly remarkable milestone reached by i3 Verticals,” said Brenda Wynn, the former Davidson County Clerk who spearheaded the initial implementation with i3 Verticals.

“When we started down this path in 2014, our efforts were rooted in the physical limitations of one of our smaller branches. Adding staff was impossible due to the size of the office, but we were able to augment our service capacity by adding the kiosk. What began as a forward-thinking solution for one of our smaller offices has grown into a core component at each of our branches.”

Newly elected Davidson County Clerk, Sharon Hurt, went on to add that, “reaching one million renewals is an incredible milestone, and it proves that when we modernize county government and let people renew their tags in under two minutes close to home, it simply works better for everyone across Davidson County.”

Transformative Implementation

In February 2020, we installed our first-ever Outdoor Kiosk in Nashville. One month later, the world shut down. With all county offices closed and social distancing in place, our Outdoor Kiosk was a game changer during the COVID-19 pandemic. Davidson County drivers could safely renew their vehicle registration without risk of exposure, and staff workloads were alleviated.

“We are deeply committed to making the Davidson County Clerk’s Office more efficient, accessible, and responsive to every resident we serve,” said Sharon Hurt.

“Thus, utilizing our vehicle renewal kiosks has changed the way our offices conduct business. By bringing self-service kiosks directly into the heart of our communities, with 15 locations at our police precincts and branch offices to daily neighborhood hubs like the Nashville Farmers’ Market, Plaza Mariachi, and our public libraries, residents save valuable time. When I stepped into this office, my promise was to meet Nashville residents where they are and make county services faster and far more accessible. I and my entire team operate with that sense of urgency every day.”

But we didn’t stop in Davidson County. Stretching across 38 counties, many County Clerks have seen a vast improvement in their renewal processes, including Williamson County.

“The [tag] renewal kiosks have made a real difference for the Williamson County Clerk’s office and our customers,” said Jeff Whidby, Williamson County Clerk.

“More people are using the kiosks because they are fast and convenient, which has reduced in-office wait times and allowed staff to focus on customers who have transactions that must be completed in our office.”
