i3 Verticals Unifies Montana’s Motor Carrier Services

Modernized Motor Carrier Platform
For years, the Montana Department of Transportation (MDT) utilized multiple outdated commercial vehicle systems, creating fragmented and inefficient processes for staff and customers.

After a competitive procurement process, the MDT began its partnership with i3 Verticals in 2014 to modernize its Motor Carrier Services into a single platform, supporting multiple MDT divisions and replacing its legacy systems.

i3 Verticals launched MDT’s new Electronic Permitting, Audit, Registration and Tax (ePART) system, an integrated, web-based platform for the International Registration Plan, International Fuel Tax Agreement, and audit, licensing, financial processing, registration, and document management, in May 2016.

“It’s very user-friendly, and our staff really likes it,” Jeannie Lake, commercial vehicle operations bureau chief for MDT’s Motor Carrier Services Division, says. “Our carriers also think it’s very easy to use. Change can be daunting, but once carriers realized they could complete transactions online in minutes instead of hours, they embraced it.”
Ten Years Later & Beyond
At i3 Verticals, our customers are our partners and are supported through every platform evolution. Since the launch of ePART, i3 Verticals has collaborated with MDT on enhancements, new integrations, workflow improvements, and expanded online services for motor carriers, making MDT even more efficient and creating a better user experience for customers.

“A successful modernization effort depends on collaboration, continuous improvement, and a shared commitment to long-term success,” says Stoney Hale, Executive Vice President of Transportation at i3 Verticals.

Lake went on to add that, “If there’s a problem that needs to be fixed, they’re right on it. We’re always looking for ways to improve, and they’ve been very responsive in helping us make things happen.”

We greatly value our partnership with MDT, and look forward to expanding MDT’s online self-services, automating more workflows, and further simplifying carrier document submission processes in the years to come.
